What Is Civic about Virtue?
February 18, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
A Lecture by Geoffrey M. Vaughan, Ph.D.
Professor of Political Science at Assumption College
The virtues are necessary for our flourishing, and so is civic life. But what makes a virtue “civic”, as opposed to simply a virtue? The civic virtues guide us through the middle way between a beastly indifference and an ideological conquest of politics.
Geoffrey M. Vaughan teaches Political Science at Assumption College. He has published widely on the history of political philosophy as well as writing on literature and, with his wife, on Tolkien. He has published with First Things, National Review, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and the Toronto Globe and Mail, among others.
