The talk will address the connection between the rise of American progressivism and the principles of Social Gospel Christianity. While religious fervor is most often associated with the Right in contemporary politics, the lecture will show that there was a form of Christianity that was integral to the origins of modern liberalism in the American political tradition.

Dr. Ronald J. Pestritto serves as a Senior Fellow of Hillsdale’s Kirby Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Claremont Institute for the Study of Statesmanship and Political Philosophy.
